Winner of the World Fantasy Award, European Cultural Achievement Award, Silpathorn Kittikhun Award.  In film, his Ill Met By Moonlight (1994) received the International Humanitarian Award for its work with young people.  In music and literature he has won numerous awards and published over eighty books and dozens of major compositions.

Somtow published over eighty books from leading U.S. and European publishers, in the fields of science fiction, fantasy, horror and magic realism.  His most well known novels are Vampire Junction, Jasmine Nights, and the galaxy ranging Inquestor Series.  Academy award winning writer David Axelrod called him “the J.D. Salinger of Siam” and magician David Copperfield said that Somtow is “the best Thai writer in the universe.”

He is well known as a composer of operas and symphonies and during his time in Hollywood worked in several areas of the film industry, including screenwriting for Roger Corman and Brian Yuzna, animation writing for Disney Television, soundtrack composing, and appearing as a guest panelist on various talk shows on the Sci Fi Channel and History Channel.
